Summertime in the Studio

I’ve been frantically working on new stuff for my thesis show next year. Above is a new collage currently in the works. Also, I’ve had a couple of collages printed really large on transparency film that I’m planning on hanging in a light box. I’ve included some pictures of the studio as it stands now. More to come, including videos of a couple of performances I did in May and June to celebrate the full moon.

Open Studios

This Friday the grads and I had an Open Studio Event. It went well. I sold some collages, and people got to see the video animations I had worked on last year. A professor shot this of photo of my studio. I realized I hadn’t posted my new studio before, so here it is. Larger, brighter, more improved. I just need to make it down there more often. I’m starting to sound like a broken record.

Art for Sale
This summer I began selling a series of collages on Facebook. These are all that are left, so I’m deciding to open up the bid for the remaining. They’re $50 a piece, plus shipping (which is $5). If you buy more than one, however, I will cover the shipping cost. These are all one-of-a-kind hand made collages on luan board. They run from about 8 x 10 inches to about 4 x 5 inches. Get them while they’re still available, this is on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can contact me by e-mail, facebook, or anyway you know how. I take checks, money orders, paypal, etc.

A Small Step for Man
A few weeks back, I was asked by this guy I worked with at the FSView to submit some of my work to The Yeti; this cool progressive news-magazine in Tallahassee. Well, it’s been published, and I even got the cover. I know it’s a small publication, but I’m rather excited about it. I’m working on a few different projects at the moment that are keeping me fairly busy. I’ve been going through some old videos to submit to this call for video artists; it’s a DVD publication of experimental videos. It would be good exposure.
Also, I got sick this weekend, and I’m still trying to recuperate from that. I keep writing these posts really late at night, and it’s messing up my sleep, and the posts for that matter. It’s 1:30AM and I should have been in bed long ago. I really should do something about that. Anyway, hopefully I’ll have more on these side projects soon.

A Little Disappointed
I had my first critique today. Well I say “first” because it was a new project that was being critiqued. I was exited coming into it, and not to say that anything bad was said of it. In fact, it’s that not much was said of it which leads me to think that it wasn’t received well. I’m becoming more tired with the classes in general and I think that they’re not helping me as much as I would’ve hoped. I’m writing this with the danger that I will again misinterpret the supposed purpose of this “blog,” which is to provide with updates, and turn it into a sort of journal. I guess having some form of outlet like this can help, I just don’t know if it’s something which should be published in such a public space. I tend to like blogs which are more personal, but that’s the thing; this isn’t really a blog is it?
I suppose I’ll leave it up to the reader to decide. I don’t think that it would affect the portfolio portion of the site to the extent that I fear. And maybe it will provide me with the emotional outlet I sometimes feel I need. I really just hope not to take it too seriously, as I seem to be doing already. I want to focus on creating new work, and with the little time I have left worrying about a blog is another responsibility I don’t want to have to deal with.
So I wish I had more time to work on new projects. Now that I’m trying to experiment with new processes, I feel I’ve stretched myself too thin with all the classes, the job, side jobs, exercise, personal time. I need to make time in the week to go out to my studio and work. I do want to get into silk-screening again, but that’s going to require me getting in contact with some people and maybe sitting in on a few classes—again, stretching myself. We’ll see what happens in the coming month. I have to head to the gym now; maybe let out my frustrations on the treadmill—but that’s another story.
