Full Moon Video Clips

As promised, the video clips for the “Full Moon Celebrations” have been posted on my Vimeo account. The videos document the participants making homages to the full moon on the overhead projector. For the soundtrack I used two songs we sang during our serenade of the full moon: Blue Moon by The Marcels and Mr. Moonlight by The Beatles.

Summertime in the Studio

I’ve been frantically working on new stuff for my thesis show next year. Above is  a new collage currently in the works. Also, I’ve had a couple of collages printed really large on transparency film that I’m planning on hanging in a light box. I’ve included some pictures of the studio as it stands now. More to come, including videos of a couple of performances I did in May and June to celebrate the full moon.

Full Moon Celebrations

These stills are from a couple of performances titled “Full Moon Celebrations.” These events took place on the full moon in May and June. They involved several activities including “moon bathing” under the moon’s light, serenading the moon with classic moon songs of the past, and paying an homage to the moon using collage pieces printed on transparency film and an overhead projector.

Each of the participants were instructed to come up to the “altar” after “moon bathing” and pay an homage to the full moon by creating their own interpretations of moon figures, moon deities, or images in the face of the moon. These were projected onto a moon shaped board. The participants were allowed to create their own figures or add on to existing ones.

Everyone who participated was great. Some of the creations were truly amazing. These three are some of my favorite from one of the nights, but there are more. I’m currently working on videos documenting the event, so I’ll post those really soon.

The performances could not have been possible without the help of fellow artist and friend, Jaimes Mayhew. Jaimes hosted the events in his amazing backyard and powered the lights using his bike-powered battery pack, which is part of his ongoing project: Accumulation/Temporary Occupations. Thanks Jaimes!

Animated Videos

Here are the videos I promised. They’re on Vimeo, and “Ganesh Lagerfeld” is actually HD, just click on the “share” button on that video and “visit the URL.” Vimeo has this thing where they only let you upload one HD video a week, so “Wrestling” is just standard definition right now. Let me know what you think.

Ganesh Lagerfeld

I present you “Ganesh Lagerfeld,” the second in a series of animations collectively titled “Hybrids.” This is part of the work I showed for evaluation at my candidacy review today.

Overall, I received some interesting feedback, so I’m excited to continue tweaking this and working on more in the future. For now, however, I’m taking a break for a few weeks to unwind that clear my head. I am in the process of uploading this and the “Wrestling” videos on Vimeo, so I’ll post those up as soon as they become available.
